Jonathan Webb, Partner, HFW

Jonathan Webb has been a member of the board since 2013. Mr. Webb is a dual-qualified lawyer admitted as an attorney in South Africa in 1991 and a solicitor in England in 1997. Born in Natal, South Africa, he completed a BA in History and Economics at the University of Cape Town. He received an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) and a post-graduate diploma in maritime law from the University of Natal. He began his professional career in 1989 at Sheptsone & Wylie, a leading Durban maritime law practice. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1993 where he acquired an LLM (Master of Laws) at the University of London.

Mr. Webb joined HFW in 1994 and specializes in P&I and FD&D work for ship owners. He is now one of the senior partners in the shipping litigation department in which he focuses on charter party disputes and other “dry shipping” issues such as MOA disputes, hull insurance claims, bills of lading cargo claims, bunker quality disputes, ship finance and personal injury claims. Mr. Webb has become increasingly involved in green shipping issues. He is a Council Member at the London Shipping Law Centre and works in collaboration with the University of Southampton, where he gives an annual lecture to the post-graduate Shipping LLM Course.
