FOUNDING MEMBERSHIP

(Note: The WOC Founding Membership Program is only available in 2009/2010)

Ocean industry companies, associations and individuals committed to leadership in ocean sustainability have the opportunity to become Founding Members of the World Ocean Council in 2009/2010.

The World Ocean Council is building an alliance of companies, associations and individuals to create the platform for developing science-based solutions to the collective ocean environmental challenges facing the ocean business community. The WOC will work to educate other ocean stakeholders, provide the eyes, ears and voice in the ocean sustainability policy fora and processes and catalyze ocean business community action on priority issues.

Recognizing that the WOC is a new approach and organization and that the current economic conditions present extraordinary challenges, we are working to create as much flexibility as possible in enabling companies, associations and individuals to become WOC Founding Members.

Active Founding Member companies and associations will form the WOC Steering Committee and work with the Executive Director to guide the WOC through its establishment as a fully separate organization. The number of Founding Member companies and associations will be limited to those that make a commitment in 2009/2010.

Individual Founding Members will be invited to join the Advisory Committee for the WOC start up phase. There is no limit the number of individuals that may join as Founding Members.

Companies and industry associations are invited to become a "Founding Member" of the World Ocean Council by:

1. Agreeing to the "WOC Member Statement" during 2010.
2. Submitting the "WOC Founding Member Contribution Pledge" during 2010.
3. Ensuring their Founding Member Contribution is received at the WOC during 2010.
