The 6th Sustainable Ocean Summit (14-16 November 2018, Hong Kong) marked historic participation records for the SOS, with over 250 delegates from 30 different nationalities and representing all key ocean sectors coming together to advance action on “Ocean Sustainable Development – Connecting Asia and the World”.
Since 2010, the SOS has been bringing together leaders from the diverse Ocean Business Community (shipping, fisheries, oil & gas, aquaculture, offshore renewables, tourism, seabed mining, marine technology, law, insurance, finance, etc. – as well as ocean stakeholders from the government, inter-governmental, science and environment communities) to focus on industry-driven solutions in support of “Corporate Ocean Responsibility”.
With an unparalleled line-up of ocean industry leaders (including special speakers Former Seychelles President James Michel, U.N. Ocean Envoy Ambassador Peter Thomson and Hong Kong SAR Director of Marine Maisie Cheng), the SOS 2018 delivered an extraordinary program in support of “Corporate Ocean Responsibility”, featuring sessions on Women’s Leadership in Ocean and Coastal Business, Asian Shipping and Shipbuilding, Biofouling and Invasive Aquatic Species, One Belt One Road One Ocean, Sustainable Aquaculture, Ocean Investment Platform and more.

The SOS 2018 theme recognized:
- The major role that Asia plays in the global economy through trade and maritime transport
- The size and growth of the economies and populations of Asian countries
- The national, regional and international importance of key ocean industries in Asia, e.g. shipping, shipbuilding, fisheries, aquaculture etc.
- The global interconnectedness of the ocean, the ocean economy and the ocean business community
- The need to address ocean sustainable development and the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a global scale with all ocean business sectors
